Direction hearing for Darug Peoples

Native Title Application: NC97/8 [NSD6061/98] Darug

The Darug matter will be heard at 9.30 am before Justice Moore

The hearing will be held at NSW Registry of the Federal Court – Law Courts Building, Queens Square Sydney.

We have arranged for a bus (50) to pick up from Katoomba, Penrith, Doonside & Parramatta  return for any members of the Darug community who would like to attend this hearing to show your support in this matter we still have  limited seats available.

We also received news we have been granted a five (5) year lease from Blacktown City Council for facilities to hold our meetings, heritage camps, build bush tucker gardens, hold our reunions  workshops & office space & it is only a easy ten (10)) minute walk from Seven Hills station we will supply more details later.

Prof Jim Kohen, Gai Marheine, Lexodious Dadd, John Reilly & myself attended a meeting with Blacktown City Council at Nurragingy Reserve with the establishment of a bush tucker garden, Art & signage about the Darug people who lived in these lands, we will also keep you informed about this.

I am quick to write to Blacktown Council when I think they have crossed the line concerning matters about the Darug Peoples & their Heritage & Culture.

But I believe since we have had a meeting with the Mayor Charlie Lowles & members of the Council their commitment to assisting the Darug community to establish a better ongoing relationship is very sincere.

I believe our community will be able to look forward & work with this Council to ensure that the wider community have a better understanding the of the Darug People & their Heritage & Culture.

To Blacktown Council thank you

We will be holding a film making workshop when we move into our facilities at Grantham & are looking for expressions of interest on attending this workshop which is a great opportunity for the community to learn these skills to record events that happen now for future generations & is also a new tool to tell our story.

Please fill in this document (139kb MS Word Document) as best you can and return it in order for you to get the most out of your workshop. You will add to this during the workshop and keep this as a reference afterwards. This can also be filled on computer and emailed back to me before the workshop.

The Yarramundi Kids (231kb PDF) are having their exclusive premiere on NITV on the 15th February 2010 at 7am and 11am EST.
